Thank You for Helping Benson
"We Did It" Original Story ![]() Benson has been medically assessed by a veterinary opthamolgist and he is considered an ideal candidate for cataract removal surgery. Unfortunately, the cost of this surgery is estimated to be $4,000 (Canadian funds). It is our most sincere wish to be able to give Benson the gift of sight. This is a young 2 year old dog that really deserves the chance to see the world he is learning about and to enjoy all that it has to offer without fear. After all that he has been through in his short life, the gift of restoring his sight would help him assimilate into the new world that has so much potential for him. It could transform him from the fearful dog that he is to a dog that can integrate fully into his new life and all of its possibilities. It could literally change his life. Benson Update - 25 July 2008 Thank you to all of you who have sent in donations and well wishes to our special dog Benson. We are approximately halfway to our fundraising goal of $4,000 for the cataract surgery that will change his life. As you can see from his most recent picture, he is beginning to feel safe and confident enough to venture out of his crate and enjoy a comfy dog bed and a little sunshine. He is slowly becoming more comfortable in a home setting but he still has a long way to go. He has made remarkable progress considering his past and we are confident that he will progress even further once his eyesight is restored. Please consider donating to this wonderful dog's care. Give the gift of sight and help give Benson a new life! Thank you from all of us at BTCC Rescue! The Boston Terrier Club of Canada Rescue Organization is currently providing care for many boston terriers and mixes across Canada and our financial resources are stretched very thin. We have many dogs requiring costly medical rehabilitation and care. Despite this, we want to give Benson every opportunity we can to help him. We have achieved our fundraising goal for Benson's cataract surgery thanks to the many kind and generous people who donated funds, participated in ebay fundraisers, bought tickets for raffles, donated items for fundraising, had garage sales, and sent their well wishes to our special boy Benson. On Wed. Sept. 17 Benson will receive the gift of sight! Benson will have approximately a month of aftercare in his foster home before he goes to his wonderful new adoptive parents, Patty and Dan. We couldn't have done this without the many compassionate people who sent donations and good thoughts to our very dear and special Benson. Thank you all so much for caring about this brave little dog that needed a second chance. His story is a testament to the good that can happen when people care about each other and the companions that we share our lives with. We would like to send out a special thank you to a very special 11 year old boy named Sam in British Columbia. This incredible kid recently had a birthday and instead of receiving presents he asked all of his classmates and friends to send donations to the Benson fund. Sam and his friends raised the final $500 needed for Benson's surgery! The level of compassion and generosity shown by this wonderful young man at such a young age is a testament to his incredible family and community. We are so proud of you Sam! Please be sure to check back and visit our website for future updates on Benson's progress after surgery! Thank you again for your support and kindness, AM Davies BTCC Rescue Volunteer and Foster Home ![]() "Sam and his sister Eva donate $500 to the Benson Fund" Dear Boston Terrier Club of Canada Rescue, At my 11th birthday on August 24th I had a party and invited all my classmates. Instead of presents I asked for donations to the Cruelty Investigations Program of the BC SPCA who rescued Benson. We raised over $500. We would like to donate $500 for Benson's eye surgery and the rest will go to the BC SPCA CI Program. On behalf of my friends and their families from the Intermediate classroom at Boundary Bay Montessori House, my sister and my parents, please accept our gift. Thank you for your kindness and consideration towards Benson and I hope his eye surgery goes well. Sincerely, Sam Benson Update - 01 October 2008 Benson can see! He had his cataract removal surgery on September 17 at the Westcoast Veterinary Eye Specialists in New Westminster, BC. It was a long day but the little guy pulled through like a trooper and the surgery went very well. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when he was brought out into the waiting room! Although he was sleepy from anesthetic, he looked right at his foster mom when he heard her voice and they had this incredible moment of recognition. It made this whole journey worth it! Benson's life has changed dramatically since the surgery. He is becoming a normal dog, his confidence increases every day. We are seeing more of his personality come out. He has changed from a dog who used to lay in his kennel all day to a brave little dog that likes to stroll around the house and get used to the familiar surroundings he can now see. Benson now enjoys joining his foster family each evening for a cuddle while watching tv. He enjoys walks and is learning not to be afraid of the leash. He likes to look around at everything, often with a great look of wonder. He is very gentle about receiving his numerous daily eye drops and his follow up check ups are going well. He has to wear the dreaded cone on his head for another 2-3 weeks but he is tolerating it and has learned to adapt to it. Benson will be staying in foster care until mid-October and then he will be going to his forever home with Patty and Dan, his adoptive parents. The members of BTCC Rescue would like to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to Dr. Charlotte Keller and Dr. Marnie Ford for their amazing care of our sweet Benson. Thanks to their skill Benson will no longer have a life full of darkness and fear. Special thanks also go to veterinary technician Karen and receptionist Toni at the clinic for all of the extra TLC they gave to Benson while he was in their care. http://www.westcoastanimaleyes.com/ Extra special thanks also goes out to some very kind people in Delta, BC - the incredible staff and clients at Huff Animal Hospital for their exemplary care and generous donations and to Pets N Us pet supply store for their willingness to collect donations for Benson's surgery. We couldn't have done it without you! Benson also sends special boston terrier kisses to his friends at WOOF, the best boston terrier message board www.woofboard.com and to Heidi and the gang at the Bean Dogs Cafe www.beandogscafe.com And finally, to the many, many people that opened their hearts to this special and gentle dog and sent in donations. You are the reason that Benson has his life back. Thank you for giving him a promising future filled with hope, love, and kindness.
