Ana-Maria Davies, an SPCA volunteer and private dog rescue advocate since the mid 1990's, became involved with Boston Terrier rescue as a result of her love for her two Boston Terriers, Simon and Trinket. Realizing there was a need for Boston Terrier rescue in her home province of BC, she began helping the homeless and needy BTs on her own. Showing such passion and dedication for the breed, Ana-Maria's work was quickly recognized in the Boston community and she was approached by the Boston Terrier Club of Canada to create the BTCC Rescue Program and represent the Club as BTCC National Rescue Representative. It is her vision and hard work that made the successful rescue program of today possible. Ana-Maria resigned her position as National Rescue Representative in 2006 but continues to support BTCC and work tirelessly for rescue.
Current National Rescue Representative Kelly Pankatz began her love affair with the Boston Terrier after the purchase of her first Boston, Zelda Marie, in 1996. Unfamiliar with the breed, she turned to the Internet to learn more and was lucky enough to meet a group of dedicated and knowledgeable Boston fanciers, located across North American but joined together in their love of Bostons. Working with this group -- Susan Hunter, Linda Trader, Susan Miller, Vivian Blanton, Carol Westinbrooke and Patti Stott -- Kelly helped to establish Boston Terrier Rescue Net, or BTRN, (www.bostonrescue.net) a non-profit group dedicated to helping Bostons that have been abandoned, abused or are unwanted by their owners, or homeless as a result of owner death or disability. Since most of the work of BTRN took place south of the border, and rescue in Canada was getting steadily busier, Kelly left the group to work more closely with Ana-Maria Davies and BTCCR in 2002 and now coordinates rescue efforts across the country.
